Aapravasi Ghat is a historic immigration depot in Port Louis, connected with the history of indentured labour and the lives of hundreds of thousands of migrants who arrived in Mauritius or travelled onward to other parts of the world. The depot was built in 1849; the site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006.
Admission is free. Address: Quay Street, Port Louis. Opening hours: Monday–Friday, 09:00–16:00; Saturday, 09:00–12:00. Closed Sundays and public holidays. Closes at noon on 24 and 31 December. Allow about one hour for the site and Beekrumsing Ramlallah Interpretation Centre. Guided visits are offered by prior booking, subject to availability.
The site and the centre’s galleries are wheelchair accessible, and accessible toilets are available. There is no visitor parking at the centre; parking is available at the Granary or Le Caudan Waterfront. Check current arrangements on the official visitor page.
