How to Promote an Event in Mauritius: Events, Social Media and Partners

A good event can be perfectly organised and still attract few people if the audience hears about it too late. In Mauritius, local residents, expats, tourists and French-, English- and Russian-speaking communities live side by side, so one Instagram post rarely reaches everyone.

The practical scheme is simple: create one complete event listing with current details, then bring people to it from social networks, local communities, venue pages, partners and bloggers. On Mauritius by Anilau, use “Events” for concerts, festivals, parties, fairs, lectures, workshops, sports events and meetups.

First create the main event listing

A good listing answers what will happen, when, where, for whom, how much it costs and how to attend. Add a clear name, short description, exact date and time, online or in-person format, venue and address, organiser, entry conditions, ticket price, registration link, contact, programme and a suitable cover. For multi-day events state the full period and opening hours.

How Events work on Mauritius by Anilau

For a specific future event choose “Events”. Its date, format, venue, organiser, entry, registration and ticket fields distinguish it from an ordinary product or service listing. Organiser services, equipment rental and photographers belong in “Offer”. A concert in Port Louis, festival in Grand Baie or workshop in Flic-en-Flac belongs in “Events”, even when paid.

Publish the event in advance

Moderation and planning take time:

  • 3–4 weeks before — create the listing and open registration;
  • 10–14 days before — share it with relevant communities and partners;
  • 5–7 days before — publish a reminder with a reason to come;
  • 1–2 days before — remind participants of time, address and details;
  • on the day — publish short current reminders.

Large festivals need more time; a small meetup may need one or two weeks.

Do not turn the title into an advertising banner

Use a clear title such as Sunset Yoga & Sound Healing in Flic-en-Flac, Live Jazz Night in Grand Baie or Ceramics Workshop for Beginners in Moka. Avoid DO NOT MISS IT!!! The Best Event of the Year!!!. Name, format and location are more useful than emotional promises.

What to include in the detailed description

Include programme, duration, language, age restrictions, clothing or preparation, entry conditions, what the ticket includes and whether a ticket can be bought on site. Mention workshop materials, the real music start, excursion meeting point and sports equipment. If the programme is not final, say that honestly.

Add a proper photo or poster

The cover is the first thing users see beside the title and date. Use an official poster, a real venue photo or an image showing a fair’s atmosphere. Do not use images without permission or another venue’s photo. Poster text cannot replace normal listing text, especially on mobile.

Use several languages if the audience is international

Create complete versions with the same dates, prices and conditions. Check venue, time, currency, artists, ticket link and registration rules. Different languages must not promise different conditions.

Social networks should lead to the listing, not replace it

Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Telegram and WhatsApp create reach, but posts disappear. Use them to lead to the permanent Events listing. A short post can announce the date, artists, oceanfront venue, programme and link. If time or venue changes, update the listing and publish a short notice.

Local groups and communities work better than mass spam

Local Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram groups, expat and digital-nomad chats, parent groups and neighbourhood communities have different audiences. Choose relevant groups, adapt the message and follow their rules.

Use the venue and participants as distribution channels

Restaurants, hotels, coworking spaces, clubs, artists, speakers, partners, sponsors, schools, photographers and brands already have audiences. Give them a ready link, short texts and images in the required formats.

If you need bloggers, use “Promo”

“Promo” is for finding promoters, bloggers and influencers. Create “Events” first, then a “Promo” cooperation proposal. State the event, audience, area, blogger’s task, organiser’s offer, content format and deadline. A concrete offer is better than “looking for bloggers”.

A free event still needs a proper listing

“Free entry” is not enough. Include programme, time, organiser, place and conditions. Mention registration when capacity is limited and do not invent scarcity.

If the event repeats

Keep the current schedule clear and update cancelled or moved dates quickly. Do not create dozens of identical listings; create a separate one when date, programme, venue or edition changes.

How to distribute promotion over time

The first wave explains what the event is, the second shows programme, artist, venue or a previous result, and the last reminds people of the date and next action. Alternate the main announcement, programme, speaker, venue photo or video, FAQ, tickets and final reminder.

What to measure

Measure tickets, registrations, confirmed participants, enquiries and attendance. Also check ticket clicks, WhatsApp enquiries, saved posts and registration sources. Use UTM tags or ask how people heard about the event.

What to do when plans change or the event is cancelled

Weather, wind, sea, venue and transport can change plans in Mauritius, especially outdoors. Update the listing and notify registered people. For a paid cancellation, explain refunds or ticket transfers and keep the organiser contact available.

Checklist before publishing in Events

Check type “Events”, date, time, location, venue, organiser, price, contact, programme, image, language consistency and an update plan. Open the listing on a phone: what happens, where, when, how much and how to join should be clear.

Events as the centre of promotion

The Events listing stores structured information; social networks create reach; local groups find the right audience; partners add trust; and “Promo” helps find bloggers and other channels. One complete listing is better than disconnected announcements.
